Fact Check: Debunking Viral Claims on Ocean Acidification and Net Zero

Ocean acidification and climate change are well-documented scientific realities, yet they are often targeted by misinformation online. A viral post on social media has cast doubt on ocean acidification and climate action, calling the UN’s climate agenda a “swindle.” The post argues that scientists cannot know past ocean pH levels, that rainwater is more acidic than seawater but harmless, that humans emitted little CO2 by 1900, and that the oceans are too vast to be affected in our lifetimes. It goes further to claim that net-zero policies would destroy modern life. Each of these claims fails against established scientific evidence.

Claim Post: https://x.com/PeterDClack/status/1965353429431451687

Claim 1: “Worsening ocean acidity from human-caused CO2 is a key element of the UN’s faltering global warming crisis. But this claim is false & the UN’s decades-long climate swindle is likely to destroy western society.”

Fact: This claim is false and rooted in a conspiracy narrative. Ocean acidification caused by human CO2 emissions is a measurable and well-established process. Since the industrial era, oceans have absorbed about 30% of human-emitted CO2. This has lowered average surface ocean pH from around 8.2 to 8.1, a roughly 30% increase in acidity. While this may seem small, marine life such as corals, shellfish, and plankton are sensitive to even slight changes in pH, and the decline is already impacting ecosystems. Reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) confirm these observations.

The notion of a “climate swindle” promoted by the post has no factual basis. Scientific understanding of ocean chemistry and climate change is supported by decades of peer-reviewed studies across independent institutions worldwide. Dismissing this evidence as fraud undermines the work of thousands of researchers. In reality, the scientific consensus points clearly to the fact that human-driven CO2 emissions are altering ocean chemistry and accelerating climate change.

Claim 2: “The pH scale … wasn’t invented until 1909. Before then, no one knew how to measure pH — & pH leaves no trace in the geological record. It’s impossible to know with certainty what past ocean pH levels were.”

Fact: While it is true that the modern pH scale was introduced in 1909 by Søren Sørensen, this does not mean scientists are blind to past ocean chemistry. Researchers use chemical proxies preserved in marine sediments and corals to reconstruct historical pH values. One of the most reliable methods involves boron isotopes found in marine carbonates. These isotopes vary with the acidity of seawater at the time they were formed, allowing scientists to estimate ocean pH dating back millions of years.

Multiple peer-reviewed studies have reconstructed past ocean acidity using these methods, confirming that surface ocean pH has declined since the pre-industrial era. Far from being “impossible,” this field of research is essential for understanding how marine ecosystems responded to past climate changes. By dismissing these scientific tools, the claim ignores a robust body of evidence showing that today’s acidification is unusual in both speed and scale compared to natural variability.

Claim 3: “Clean rainwater which has a pH of 5 to 5.5 pH would be more likely to cause acidification, but it never has & is unlikely to start now.”

Fact: This claim is false because it confuses scale. While rainwater is naturally more acidic than seawater, the ocean’s buffering system neutralises such inputs. The volume of rain entering the oceans is far too small relative to their size to alter pH levels meaningfully. Ocean acidification is not caused by rainfall but by the direct absorption of CO2 from the atmosphere into seawater. When CO2 dissolves, it forms carbonic acid, which lowers pH and reduces the availability of carbonate ions needed by corals and shell-forming organisms.

Rainfall, even if slightly acidic, has been a constant feature of Earth’s water cycle for billions of years without destabilising ocean chemistry. What is new and significant is the massive amount of anthropogenic CO2 that oceans are absorbing on a short timescale. That is why scientists measure consistent declines in surface pH across oceans worldwide, while rain continues to play its regular and limited role.

Claim 4: “The industrial revolution had hardly started in 1900 … So it’s highly unlikely humans were creating any extra CO2 anyway.”

Fact: This statement is historically inaccurate. By 1900, the Industrial Revolution was well underway, with widespread use of coal, steam engines, and early electricity grids. Human activity had already caused measurable increases in atmospheric CO2. Ice core records show that pre-industrial CO2 levels were about 280 parts per million (ppm). By 1900, this had risen to about 296 ppm, directly linked to fossil fuel combustion and land-use changes.

The idea that emissions were negligible in 1900 ignores industrial growth during the 19th century. By that time, Britain, Germany, and the United States were major industrial powers. Fossil fuel consumption and population growth were already contributing to rising greenhouse gases, setting the stage for the exponential increase seen in the 20th century.

Claim 5: “Oceans can never become acidic from rising CO2 during the lifetime of anyone alive today & not even in millions of years …”

Fact: This is false. Oceans are already experiencing measurable acidification within human lifetimes. Since 1850, the average surface ocean pH has fallen by 0.1 units, which equates to about a 30% rise in acidity. This process is occurring on the scale of decades, not millions of years. Corals and shellfish are already showing stress, with bleaching events and weaker shells observed in regions like the Pacific Northwest and the Great Barrier Reef.

While it is true that the deep ocean equilibrates with the atmosphere over centuries to millennia, the surface layers respond much more quickly. It is the surface ocean, where most marine life resides, that is being directly affected now. This means ocean acidification is not a distant possibility but an ongoing reality.

Claim 6: “The oceans are vast & contain 86% (38,GtC) … It would take millions of years … to make any discernable difference to CO₂ or pH in the oceans.”

Fact: This claim is misleading because it misrepresents how carbon moves through the ocean. While it is correct that the deep ocean stores much more carbon than the atmosphere, the surface ocean is in constant exchange with the air above it. When CO2 levels rise in the atmosphere, the surface ocean absorbs a significant portion within years to decades. This is why scientists already measure declining pH at surface monitoring stations around the world.

The idea that it would take “millions of years” ignores the distinction between surface mixing and deep ocean circulation. Complete mixing of the entire ocean may take centuries, but surface ecosystems are exposed to rapid changes. It is in these biologically critical regions where the consequences of acidification are most immediate and severe.

Claim 7: “The real problem … net zero is more likely to destroy modern life … turbines & solar are unable to replace reliable baseline power without massive government subsidies. Net zero could cost $178 trillion & achieve nothing …”

Fact: This claim is fake and not supported by credible evidence. Net zero policies are designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions to balance with absorption, which is essential to limit warming to safe levels. Studies from the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) show that net zero is technically and economically achievable. Renewable energy costs, particularly solar and wind, have fallen dramatically in the past decade, making them competitive or cheaper than fossil fuels in many regions.

While achieving net zero requires significant investments, these costs must be weighed against the damages avoided. Climate change already causes economic losses through extreme weather, health costs, and biodiversity decline. According to the IMF, climate action delivers long-term financial benefits by preventing these damages. The narrative that net zero will “destroy modern life” is not supported by data. Instead, transitioning to clean energy is viewed as an opportunity for sustainable growth, innovation, and improved public health.

The viral post recycles old myths and misconceptions about ocean science and climate policy. While it dismisses acidification as fiction and labels net zero as a threat to society, the facts show the opposite. Ocean pH decline is measurable, directly linked to human CO2 emissions, and already harming marine life. Similarly, the transition to net zero is backed by evidence as both feasible and beneficial. Disinformation may spread online, but science remains clear.

  1. Tourists fined and banned from Venice for swimming in canal
    tripscan
A couple from the United Kingdom had to cut their vacation in Venice short after being caught swimming in the Grand Canal.

The 35-year-old British man and his 25-year-old Romanian girlfriend were forced to return to their home in the UK on Thursday, the same day they arrived in the city, after gondoliers reported them to local police for taking a dip in the canal.

The pair were fined €450 ($529) each and expelled from Venice for 48 hours, marking the 1,136th such sanction to be handed down to badly behaved tourists in the city so far this year, according to the Venice City Police.

The unnamed couple took the plunge near the Accademia bridge near St. Mark’s Square and gondoliers at the Rio San Vidal kiosk immediately called authorities, who removed them from the water.

“I thank the gondoliers for their cooperation and timely reporting,” said Venice Security Councillor Elisabetta Pesce in a statement published by city authorities on Friday.

Swimming in the Venice canals is prohibited for a variety of reasons, including the intense boat traffic and the cleanliness — or lack thereof — of the water, according to the city’s tourism ministry.

Of the 1,136 orders of expulsion from the city so far this year, about 10 were for swimming.

“Since the beginning of the year, we have issued a total of 1,136 orders of expulsion for incidents of degradation and uncivilized behavior,” Venice local police deputy commander Gianni Franzoi said in a statement shared with CNN.

Poor visitor behavior is one of the worst byproducts of overtourism, Franzoi said, and incidents are on the rise.

In July 2024, an Australian man was fined and expelled for diving off the Rialto Bridge after his friends posted about it on social media.

The year before, two French tourists were fined and expelled for skinny dipping in the canal under the moonlight. In August 2022, a German man was fined and expelled for surfing in the canal.

Venice’s authorities have been trying to balance the need for visitor income with residents’ demands for a city that works for them.

Day trippers now pay a €10 entrance fee on summer weekends and during busy periods throughout the year.

The city has also banned tour groups of more than 25 people, loudspeakers and megaphones, and even standing on narrow streets to listen to tour guides.

“It was necessary to establish a system of penalties that would effectively deter potential violations,” Pesce said when the ordinance was passed in February.

“Our goal remains to combat all forms of irregularities related to overtourism in the historic lagoon city center,” she added.

“The new rules for groups accompanied by guides encourage a more sustainable form of tourism, while also ensuring greater protection and safety in the city and better balancing the needs of Venice residents and visitors.”

  5. Since India’s independence from Britain in 1947, the status of English in India has been deeply political – entwined with questions of identity, power, and national direction.

Today, English is one of several official languages in India, spoken by about 10% of the population. Hindi is the first language for around 44% of citizens, according to the 2011 census.
    трипскан сайт
But in recent years, Modi’s BJP has placed particular emphasis on promoting Hindi and reducing the use of English in public life.

The prime minister almost never delivers speeches in English, preferring Hindi for national addresses such as his monthly radio program. His administration has encouraged officials to use Hindi on social media and in government correspondence – though, after criticism from non-Hindi-speaking states, clarified that this was intended mainly for the Hindi belt in the north.
    https://trip-scan.biz

When India hosted world leaders for the 2023 G20 summit in New Delhi, invitations were sent out from “Bharat” – the Sanskrit or Hindi name for the country – instead of “India,” fueling speculation that the government aims to ultimately phase out the country’s English designation altogether.

Modi’s critics have been quick to note his political motives behind these moves.

With its roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a right-wing organization that advocates Hindu hegemony within India, the BJP’s language policies resonate with many in a country where nearly 80% of people are Hindu.

Analysts say the BJP is seeking to capitalize on this demographic by promoting language policies that strengthen its support base in the north.

According to Rita Kothari, an English professor from Ashoka University, the government “is certainly interested in homogenizing the country and making Hindi more widespread.”

But that policy can also backfire – in part because many regions, such as Marathi-speaking Maharashtra in the west – are staunchly proud of their local language.

The violent clashes in the state’s megacity Mumbai earlier this month were sparked by the regional government’s controversial decision to make Hindi a compulsory third language in public primary schools.

Pushback and protest has also been especially strong in the south, where English and regional languages such as Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada are valued as symbols of local identity and autonomy.

  9. Disney made a smart choice’
Despite the comparisons, Abu Dhabi isn’t positioning itself as a direct rival to Orlando — it’s aiming to be something more. The emirate sees its theme parks as part of a bigger portfolio of attractions, alongside cultural landmarks, luxury hotels, pristine beaches, and desert adventures.
    трипскан вход
A 15-minute drive from Yas Island, Saadiyat Island is home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, a franchised outpost of the famous Paris art museum, which welcomed 1.4 million visitors last year, 84% from abroad. The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum are both under construction, adding to a cultural district that will be one of the region’s most concentrated hubs of art and heritage.

“Abu Dhabi’s unique appeal lies in the diversity of our tourism offering,” Al Geziry added. “For thrill-seekers, we have record-breaking roller coasters and dune bashing in the desert. For culture lovers, historic sites like Al Ain Oasis and institutions like the Saadiyat museums. And for luxury travelers, world-class dining, private island resorts, and high-end shopping.

Still, not everyone is convinced that Disney’s expansion into the Middle East is a sure bet.

“The region has seen its share of false starts,” says Dennis Speigel, founder of the International Theme Park Services consultancy, comparing it to neighboring Dubai’s patchy record with theme park expansion ambitions in the mid-2010s. “Several of them struggled for profitability in their first decade.”

Spiegel believes Abu Dhabi is different. “Disney made a smart choice. The infrastructure, safety, and existing leisure developments create an ideal entry point,” he told CNN earlier this year. “It’s a much more controlled and calculated move.”

Under its Tourism Strategy 2030, Abu Dhabi aims to grow annual visitors from 24 million in 2023 to more than 39 million by the end of the decade. With Disneyland as a centerpiece, those targets may well be surpassed. The city’s population has already grown from 2.7 million in 2014 to more than 4.1 million today, a reflection of its rising profile as a regional hub.

Yas Island alone has been transformed in the space of a decade from a largely undeveloped stretch of sand to a self-contained resort destination, complete with golf courses, marinas, a mall, more than 160 restaurants, and a cluster of high-end hotels.

Orlando’s head start remains formidable — it still offers multiple Disney and Universal parks, has decades of brand loyalty, and an infrastructure built to handle tens of millions of tourists annually.

But Abu Dhabi is catching up fast. Its combination of frictionless travel, year-round comfort, cutting-edge attractions, and a cultural scene that adds depth to the experience gives Abu Dhabi its own unique selling point, potentially offering a model for the next generation of theme park capital.

Are you an avgeek with a mean handicap? Then it’s time to tee off in Bangkok, where Don Mueang International Airport has an 18-hole golf course between its two runways. If you’re nervous from a safety point of view, don’t be — players at the Kantarat course must go through airport-style security before they hit the grass. Oh, you meant safety on the course? Just beware of those flying balls, because there are no barriers between the course and the runways. Players are, at least, shown a red light when a plane is coming in to land so don’t get too distracted by the game.

Although you’re more likely to see narrowbodies these days, you may just get lucky — in 2022, an Emirates A380 made an emergency landing here. Imagine the views from the course that day.

Planning a trip to Jarlshof, the extraordinarily well-preserved Bronze Age settlement towards the southern tip of Shetland? You may need to build in some extra time. The ancient and Viking-era ruins, called one of the UK’s greatest archaeological sites, sit just beyond one of the runways of Sumburgh, Shetland’s main airport — and reaching them means driving, cycling or walking across the runway itself.

There’s only one road heading due south from the capital, Lerwick; and while it ducks around most of the airport’s perimeter, skirting the two runways, the road cuts directly across the western end of one of them. A staff member occupies a roadside hut, and before take-offs and landings, comes out to lower a barrier across the road. Once the plane is where it needs to be, up come the barriers and waiting drivers get a friendly thumbs up.

Imagine flying into Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands in Micronesia. You’re descending down, down, and further down towards the Pacific, no land in sight. Then you’re suddenly above a pencil-thin atoll — can you really be about to land here? Yes you are, with cars racing past the runway no less, matching you for speed.

Majuro’s Amata Kabua International Airport gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “water landing”. Its single runway, just shy of 8,000ft, is a slim strip of asphalt over the sandbar that’s barely any wider than the atoll itself — and the island is so remote that when the runway was resurfaced, materials had to be transported from the Philippines, Hong Kong and Korea, according to the constructors. “Lagoon Road” — the 30-mile road that runs from top to toe on Majuro — skims alongside the runway.
Don’t think about pulling over, though — there’s only sand and sea on one side, and that runway the other.

  14. Watch out, Orlando, a new world theme park capital is rising in the Arabian desert
    tripscan
For decades, Orlando has reigned as the global capital of theme parks — a place where Disney, Universal, SeaWorld and countless other attractions have drawn millions of visitors.

But a challenger for the crown has emerged from an unlikely place: the deserts of the Arabian Gulf. In a destination once known more for oil wealth and camel racing than roller coasters, Abu Dhabi is building an adrenaline-charged playground that could give Orlando a run for its money.

And it just landed the ultimate weapon: Disney.

In May 2025, when Disney announced its first new theme park in 15 years, it chose Abu Dhabi over other key theme park destinations in California, Japan and even Orlando.

There was “no question,” says Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences. The UAE capital, already home to Ferrari World, with the world’s fastest roller coaster; Warner Bros. World (built under license by CNN’s parent company, Warner Brothers Discovery); Yas Waterworld, an epic network of slides and pools; and more recently, SeaWorld Yas Island Abu Dhabi. It’s clear the emirate is emerging as the most serious challenger Orlando has ever faced.

  19. Tourists fined and banned from Venice for swimming in canal
    tripscan top

“Venice must be defended from those who disrespect it: protecting the city means ensuring decorum for residents and visitors who experience it with civility.”

Rising waters and overtourism are killing Venice. Now the fight is on to save its soul

  20. Since India’s independence from Britain in 1947, the status of English in India has been deeply political – entwined with questions of identity, power, and national direction.

Today, English is one of several official languages in India, spoken by about 10% of the population. Hindi is the first language for around 44% of citizens, according to the 2011 census.
    трип скан
But in recent years, Modi’s BJP has placed particular emphasis on promoting Hindi and reducing the use of English in public life.

The prime minister almost never delivers speeches in English, preferring Hindi for national addresses such as his monthly radio program. His administration has encouraged officials to use Hindi on social media and in government correspondence – though, after criticism from non-Hindi-speaking states, clarified that this was intended mainly for the Hindi belt in the north.
    https://trip-scan.biz
    tripscan top

  30. The Justice Department on Friday released the long-awaited transcripts of a weeks-old interview it conducted with convicted Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

The Maxwell interview was one of two steps the White House took to try and quell outrage over its handling of the Epstein files, which has rocked the administration for weeks and caused even many supporters of President Donald Trump to balk.
    m.bs2best.at
Attorney General Pam Bondi and other officials had built up anticipation for the Epstein documents before pulling back on promises to release them. Trump has also made a series of false and misleading claims that have caused Epstein’s victims to suggest a cover-up.

The administration’s other big move – asking to unseal grand jury testimony – hasn’t amounted to much. In fact, two judges have suggested it was a “diversion” intended to look transparent without actually being so.
    https://bls2web.at
    blsp.at
The Maxwell interview conducted by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, likewise, doesn’t add much to the public knowledge of Epstein. But there are some key points worth running through – particularly in the broader context of the administration’s botched handling of the matter.

Here’s what to know from the transcript:

Maxwell isn’t coming clean, which undercut the exercise
The Maxwell interview is the administration’s first significant release of information since its effort to close the matter blew up in its face last month.

(Also on Friday, it sent Epstein documents to a House committee that had demanded them, but those aren’t public yet.)

But it was always a weird choice, given Maxwell is a convicted sex offender and her appeals are ongoing. The Justice Department in Trump’s first term also labeled her a brazen liar. What could she possibly add of value?

Not a whole lot, it seems.

The big headlines are that Maxwell doesn’t implicate anybody – including Trump – in any wrongdoing and says Epstein didn’t have a client list. But those statements might carry more weight if Maxwell came clean about her and Epstein’s own misdeeds.

She clearly didn’t do that. In fact, she repeatedly cast doubt on them, too.

She denied that Epstein paid her millions of dollars to recruit young women for him. She denied witnessing any nonconsensual sex acts. And she denied seeing anything “inappropriate” from “any man” – seemingly including Epstein.

“I never, ever saw any man doing something inappropriate with a woman of any age,” Maxwell said. “I never saw inappropriate habits.”

Some other Maxwell responses also call her credibility into question.

In another instance, Maxwell claimed Epstein didn’t have “inappropriate” cameras inside his New York, Caribbean, New Mexico and Paris residences. Cameras in his Palm Beach, Florida, house were used because money was being stolen. But Epstein’s seven-story townhouse in Manhattan was outfitted with cameras, the New York Times reported earlier this month. Several of Epstein’s victims have cited a network of hidden cameras.

  52. Seo Backlinks backlink building
Site ranking is vital for SEO.

We are engaged in attracting Google bots to the site to raise the search ranking using publishing articles, backlink analysis platforms, and we also drive crawlers through other resources.

There are two primary categories of bots – crawling and indexing.

Crawling robots are the first to visit the site and signal data-processing crawlers to access.

Higher click volume from search robots to the site, the more positive it is for the project.

Before we begin the process, we will share you with a snapshot of the DR from Ahrefs’ backlink tool, and upon completion, there will be another a snapshot of the site rating from Ahrefs’ backlink analysis tool.

Payment is made only after results!

The expected timeframe is between 3 and 14 days,

In rare cases, additional time is necessary.

We work with sites with DR below 50.

  55. Link building
Inbound links for SEO consist of two main types: anchor and non-anchor backlinks.

Anchor texts include the main keyword, because the key query is essential for search engine ranking.

Non-anchor links carry equal weight – they represent plain URLs, while the ability to click matters as they offer access for bots; crawlers navigate your website along with internal pages, which benefits the site.

Updates are shared through semrush. In cases where backlink counts are lower for a specific tool, updates are provided on the tool with a larger number of backlinks due to indexing delays.
