A four day meet featuring important discussions on innovative campaigning, reimagining the near future, the presidential debate, and more, with actors, storytellers, and activists from the entertainment and climate sectors – the Hollywood Climate Summit wrapped up at California’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater on June 28.
This year, the summit showcased an impressive lineup of cross-generational figures from both Hollywood and the climate activism sphere. Attendees were treated to inspiring talks from prominent figures such as Jane Fonda, Connie Britton, Bill Nye, Brit Marling, Quannah Chasinghorse, Calum Worthy and Julius Tennon. Fonda received a standing ovation from the audience as she spoke about the significance of voting and shared her views on the recent presidential debate.
The summit spotlighted how the entertainment industry can improve climate storytelling and implement sustainable practices on set. The 2024 summit featured discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities aimed at enhancing climate consciousness among media professionals and promoting environmental sustainability within the industry.
The event also featured musicians, actors, and activists including YDE, Nalleli Cobo, and Monique Coleman, alongside industry experts like Dorothy Fortenberry, Karissa Valencia, and Lee Isaac Chung. US Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm’s appearance added significant authority to the summit’s discussions on climate issues.
The event’s programming at the Hollywood Climate Summit also included film screenings and a variety of plant-based snacks, such as eggless eggs and lox made from carrots. The environmental discussions took place at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, providing a fitting backdrop for the event’s focus on sustainability and climate action.
The Hollywood Climate Summit hosts dynamic year-round events and creative labs to empower media professionals from various sectors to enhance their climate knowledge, foster collaborations, spotlight innovations, and spearhead a cultural movement for sustained climate action and impact.
The summit convenes in-person events in Los Angeles and functions as an international conference with hybrid workshops and a global live stream, providing a virtual networking experience for attendees worldwide. This approach ensures broad participation and engagement across different sectors and geographies, enhancing the collective impact on climate action.
